Welcome to our final newsletter of 2024! As we embrace this festive season, let's take a moment to reflect on the past year and set our aspirations for the year ahead.

Throughout 2024, we hosted 40 events, featuring 20 distinguished speakers. We engaged in 30 work group meetings, 18 stakeholder meetings, and our events were attended by over 2,800 participants. We were delighted to welcome 17 new members into our community, developed 2 position papers, and crafted 9 opinion letters promoting 4 advocacy topics.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to our dedicated Board members, work group representatives, partners, and most importantly, our members! Your commitment and support have made this year extraordinary.

Ambassador Robinson hosts AmCham Board

On December 18, U.S. Ambassador Christopher Robinson welcomed AmCham Board of Directors for a brunch at his residence. The discussions covered a range of current issues as well as insights on the investment climate and sectors including defense and security, technology, AI, precision medicine and energy. Read more

Meet members of the year

ATU Duty Free, Bite Latvija, RTU Riga Business School, Radisson Blu Latvija Conference & Spa Hotel and Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, Daugava Riga were named AmCham Members of the Year. These companies have gone the extra mile in supporting AmCham throughout 2024, helping to strengthen transatlantic relations and foster a better business and investment climate. Read more

 

Spreading holiday joy and cheer

Our annual Christmas Charity reception was a heartwarming event, graced by the holiday greetings of the U.S. Ambassador and the delightful performance by students of the International School of Latvia, spreading cheer and festive spirit all around. Over 70 members gathered to kick-off the holiday season and raised €2720 to charities supporting the health and well-being of Latvia's children. It was a night of celebration, giving and holiday magic. Read more

Members turn TV presenters and meet Paralympic champion

On November 27, AmCham members had a unique chance to go behind the scenes of TV and radio stations of TV3, and meet Rihards Snikus, Latvian Paralympic equestrian who won 2 gold medals in the Paralympic Games in Paris earlier this year. The Business After Hours, hosted by leading media and telecoms companies in the Baltics were warmly welcomed by Mindaugas Rakauskas, CEO of TV3 and Arunas Mickevicius, CEO of Bite Latvija. AmCham meets new leadership of LIAA

On December 17, the Board and leaders of AmCham advocacy groups met with Ieva Jagere, new Director of the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) and Laura Strovalde, Deputy Director to discuss the reorganization of the agency and further collaboration. The main focus of LIAA will be investment and export promotion with an emphasis on the priority sectors defined in the Smart Specialization Strategy of Latvia (RIS3).  Read more

Advancing gender diversity on boards and fair pay

On December 18, AmCham Empower Her work group met with Vita Andrews and Daiga Auzina-Melalksne, representatives of the Baltic Institute of Corporate Governance (BICG) to discuss the promotion of gender equality across business organizations including gender-diverse boards and reduction of gender pay gaps.  Read more

 

Reflecting on 2024 and future goals of Digital & AI WG

The Digital Affairs & AI work group met on December 10 to review its activities of 2024 and discuss the priorities for the next year. The group will meet the new National Center for AI to continue advancing key digital initiatives. A special shoutout to Cognizant, Cobalt, Ellex, Mitigate and RTU Riga Business School for promoting the AI topic throughout the year!

Milestones and future plans of the Healthcare Work Group

On December 12, the Healthcare Work Group convened to review its activities from the past year and discuss priorities for the upcoming year. Over the past year, the group has held more than 40 meetings, produced 5 opinion letters and articles, hosted 5 events, and conducted 10 meetings with stakeholders. Read more

On December 10, AmCham Health and Digital & AI Work Groups met with with Aris Kasparans, Director of the National Health Service to learn about the new E-health patient portal, including its development process and timeline. Read more

Next steps for digital health

On December 10, AmCham Digital Health sub-group met for its final meeting of the year at Novartis office. Among priorities for next year data standardization, AI in healthcare, telemedicine and establishment of the new National Digital Health Center were discussed. Read more

Latvia and Microsoft will work together to advance AI innovation

On December 3, the Ministries of Economics and Smart Administration and Regional Development, LIAA, and the State Digital Development Agency signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Microsoft underscoring Latvia’s commitment to developing a National Center for AI and advancing key digital initiatives. This partnership will strengthen Latvia’s technological ecosystem, driving economic growth and enhancing the quality, efficiency, and accessibility of public services. Read more

 

Emil Syundyukov re-elected Deputy Chair of the Digital Health Council

Emil Syundyukov was nominated by the AmCham Digital Health WG to continue co-chairing the work of the Digital Health Council under the auspices of the Ministry of Health. The Digital Health Council is a consultative institution bringing together stakeholders to develop a digital health ecosystem that ensures patient access to services and increases patient engagement.
