AmCham and FICIL call for further work in establishment of the Economic Court
In light of the fact that the Legal Affairs Committee of Saeima during the last week's sitting decided to suspend the Economic Affairs Court before the third reading in the Saeima, AmCham and FICIL issued a joint statement of the importance of enhancing the efficiency and quality of the judiciary by ensuring further specialization of courts and judges in certain categories of cases. Court specialization would allow for effective and qualitative handling cases in complex economic matters. It will be crucial in restoring Latvia’s economy after the COVID-19 crisis and boosting the investor confidence.

AmCham calls to invest in upskilling and retraining relevant for digital economy
It's time to adjust the skills of the workforce to the new reality of work. The current momentum for the use of digital tools and remote work sets the ground for review how workers are prepared and trained. With this in mind, AmCham proposes to revise the programs available for upskilling and retraining based on the real demand and relevance for a digital economy. AmCham suggests to identify solutions already available for use free of charge that can contribute to this purpose. Furthermore, promoting such skills as creativity, innovation, entrepreneurial mindset and multidisciplinary thinking will allow those who have been furloughed or lost their jobs due to COVID-19 crisis adapt to the transformation and become more resilient. Latvia's post pandemic economic recovery will largely depend on public investments in digitalization, education and upskilling of its workforce.
