HackMotion wins Latvian-American Innovation Award
HackMotion was announced the winner of the Latvian-American Innovation Award 2020 for their innovative tool for learning new movements and helping learn physical activities faster and in a more engaging way both in sports and rehabilitation medicine. Baseball training device developed by a Latvian based startup Winmill was announced the runner-up. The winner received 10,000 Euro and the runner-up 5,000 Euro and a custom made award.

COVID-19 Related Threats & Economic Impact to Businesses
All three Baltic AmChams had an opportunity to join an educational and practical webinar in cooperation with FBI and OSAC, and co-hosted by U.S. Embassies across the Baltics. It covered a wide range of topics - fraud mitigation strategies regarding IPR, health, and economic issues as well as more general COVID-19 related threats.

Foreign policy’s role in a post-pandemic world
AmCham held an online meeting with Edgars Rinkevics, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia who shared his insights on Latvia’s foreign policy in a post-pandemic world. He stressed the importance of the EU’s support, the Cohesion Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy in promoting economic growth and recovery.

Online Career Day with 12 Latvian companies
Continuing the campaign launched to support Latvian citizens living abroad and here in Latvia and looking for a job, the Online Career Day will be held on June 4 via Facebook by Latvija Strada in cooperation with LIAA for the second time in a row. 12 Latvian companies from the financial, business services, public administration and security, manufacturing, food processing, IT and other sectors will present current job offers online.

Baltics Retail MarketView 2019-2020
CBRE Baltics has published Baltics Retail MarketView 2019-2020. Retail stock in the category above a GLA of 10,000 sqm will have increased by 30% by the end of this year in Riga alone, fuelled by retailer appetite and growing retail trade before the pandemic. Structural changes in retail and consumer behavior will require adjustments. However, new retail parks, as well as multifunctional and hybrid developments will continue to confirm the resilience of brick and mortar retail as a sector across the Baltics.

Welcome to our weekly newsletter. This has been a truly busy week for us with four online events. On Wednesday we met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs who shared his insights on Latvia’s foreign policy in a post-pandemic world. On Thursday our members were invited to the Pan-Baltic webinar with FBI & OSAC to discuss cyber security and other threat mitigation strategies in times of COVID-19. Today together with FICIL we co-hosted live debate with the Prime Minister and investors on best case economic scenarios for Latvia coming out of the crisis. Finally, this afternoon Latvian-American Innovation Award was announced with Latvian startup HackMotion taking the main prize. Congratulations!
