Renewed emphasis on digital amid shifting geopolitics

On April 28, AmChams in Latvia and Bulgaria in partnership with Digital Poland and Google hosted a Three Seas Initiative (3SI) Digital Conference in advance of the upcoming 3SI Summit in Riga. Experts outlined several important issues such as the significance and urgency of the digital transformation, the necessity to establish a coordinating institution of the 3SI as well as the opportunity to build strategic partnerships to integrate the Central and Eastern European region in the global market. U.S. and Latvia: Unlocking opportunities in times of uncertainty

On April 20, we enjoyed the first speaker luncheon of 2022 with Kaspars Rozkalns, Director of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia who spoke on sustainable innovations, investment results of 2021 and the U.S. investments in Latvia. He also touched upon the recent events including Spotlight Latvia and Trade Mission to San Francisco and Los Angeles, launch of the LIAA representative office in Boston and Toronto and upcoming 3SI Business Forum. Fredis Bikovs, new Managing Director of Riga Investment and Tourism Agency joined the Q&A session to take members' questions. Read more

On April 6, members had a unique opportunity to enjoy the AmCham Spring Social. The program included the introduction of new members: Anita Gaile Consulting, Belconsult, IQVIA, Kyndryl Latvia, Orients Audit & Finance, Superia and TV3 Group Latvia. Special appreciation was expressed to Corporate Contributing members. The evening was filled with networking, delicious food and wine. Read more

Discussing latest healthcare projects

On April 4, Healthcare work group members discussed three ongoing healthcare projects: Secondary data framework, Value based healthcare approach and sustainable healthcare funding. In addition, members touched upon the recent meeting with a group of experts from the EU Technical support project “Improving cancer care coordination and screening in Latvia and Slovakia". Read more

LIAA launches office in Boston
|
|
On April 3, the Latvian American Chamber of Commerce and Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) organized a special LIAA representative office opening event in Boston. Reinis Nikolajs Sīpols will be heading the new office. The office was opened by Janis Vitenbergs, Minister of Economy and Kaspars Rozkalns, LIAA Director. On April 5, LIAA opened another representative office in North America, based in Toronto, Canada. Read more

Spotlight Latvia takes place in L.A.
|
|
The business conference Spotlight Latvia on April 1 in Los Angeles gathered many companies from Latvia including our members SAF Tehnika, Slokenbergs PLLC and Vigo Health, more than 150 participants, officials from Latvia and the United States. This year's agenda included topics related to entertainment, multimedia and technology and numerous panel discussions on Latvian technology and startups, virtual reality and gaming projects, opportunities and assistance for filmmaking as well as production and postproduction. Latvijas Finieris support to Ukraine in March - €220 000
|
|
Since 1 March, Latvijas Finieris and RSEZ SIA VEREMS have been donating 5 euros for each cubic meter of birch veneer logs purchased in Latvia, which are processed into valuable export products reaching the amount of donations in €220 000. In addition, the company is working to identify the current needs and create a diversified support plan. Read more

airBaltic welcomes Ukrainians to their team
|
|
On April 7, airBaltic performed a special flight to and from Moldova to support the President of Latvia Egils Levits’ visit, deliver a humanitarian relief cargo to the Ukrainian refugee center as well as to carry Ukrainian refugees to Latvia. The company is also welcoming Ukrainians to join their team. Read more

Novartis provides more than USD 25 mln support of medical aid to Ukraine
|
|
Novartis has delivered more than one million packs of antibiotics, painkillers, cardiovascular, and oncology treatments which amounts to more than USD 25 million in medical aid to maintain the supply to those who rely on these drugs in Ukraine and in the border areas where people are seeking refuge. They also made an initial USD 3 million donation to charities supporting refugees and displaced people in Ukraine and bordering countries. Read more

|
Children Hospital Foundation is offering various support related to healthcare services for children from Ukraine - counseling, transport, emotional and psychological support for parents, children and youngsters. Read more

Skrivanek offers discounts for people of Ukraine
|
|
Skrivanek Baltic offers translation services, language courses, children's camps, assessing each case and the amount of the discount individually. The discount is applied upon presentation of a Ukrainian domestic or foreign passport, ID card or other document proving that the person is a Ukrainian citizen. Read more

COBALT awarded Baltic-wide Law Firm of 2022
|
|
On April 22, COBALT was named Baltic-wide Law Firm of the Year at the 2022 Chambers Europe Awards ceremony. The award winners are selected based on the research of Chambers Europe, an annual review of legal markets and leading players from 53 jurisdictions across Europe. Read more

Skrivanek Baltic announces the Best Translator of 2022
|
|
On April 22, Skrivanek Baltic announced the winner of the annual competition for Latvian students - The Best New Translator. The first place was awarded to Marianna Zvaigzne, a student at the University of Latvia. Andrejs Štrāls, a student of Ventspils University College, became the winner of the second place for the second year in a row. The third place award is also going to Ventspils this year - it is deserved by Nikola Baranova, a student of Ventspils University College. Read more

airBaltic receives first place in Sustainable Brand Index
|
|
airBaltic has received the highest ranking among Latvian brands in the European Sustainable Brand Index in the transport and travel sector. The study was conducted from December 2021 to February 2022, and it analyzed how society's attitudes towards sustainability affect branding, communication, and business development. Read more

Ellex recognized the Legal Advisor of the Year 2021
|
|
On March 31, 2022, the award ceremony “Investor of the Year 2021” took place and rewarded the most significant investments in Latvia during 2021. It was organized by the Latvian Business Angels Network (LatBAN) and the Latvian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (LVCA). Read more
