The war for talent is on

Sep 05, 2013

On September 5th AmCham members met with the Minister of Education and Science to discuss how to fill the gap between labor market needs and formal education.

The event started with the reception offering a great opportunity for members and guests to network. More than 50 guests – business leaders and representatives of the diplomatic community – took part in the event.

During his speech, the Minister addressed his top priorities. Minister Dombrovksis emphasized that the country is struggling with consequences caused by demographic trends and mainly the sharp drop in birth rate of the late 90's, thus reducing the number of students. Within the next 7 years the number of students in the higher and secondary education establishments will be decreasing by 30-40%. According to Dombrovskis, many difficult decisions have to be made including about consolidating the number of schools.

The event was concluded with a business lunch and informal discussions about issues of education and talent attraction.

Thank you to our member Microsoft Latvia for supporting the event.
