How far someone can go for a promotion?

May 16, 2012

The movie night held on May 16 put focus on ethical and honest attitude of an employee towards his obligations.

Following a short introduction by Vija Tirzmale, Executive Director of RMHC Latvija and Member of the AmCham CSR Working Group, Heath Bailey, the Political/Economic Officer of the US Embassy gave the floor to Thomas Donaldson, Professor of Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Director of Zicklin Center for Research in Business Ethics.

This time attendees had an opportunity to watch the Oscar-winning comedy from 1960 „The Apartment” (1960). While the film offers entertainment and amusement, it draws upon values and ethics of employees in a corporation.

Guests were able to listen to an excellent introductory lecture by Professor Donaldson who compared the values of the  day with those at the time the movie was shot.  Could the same story happen today? What challenges and ethical issues face workers today, both in large and small companies? Following the movie, Professor Donaldson initiated the discussion for participants to share their views on these questions and compare perceptions of the issues we encounter in our worklife today.
