Our October luncheon with Sandis Jansons, CEO of Sadales tikls was devoted to the green electricity generation topic and options for businesses in Latvia.

According to Sandis Jasons, the production of electricity from solar energy continues to grow at an extremely fast pace in Latvia, and the pace of development of microgeneration (mostly solar panels in households) in Latvia is currently significantly higher than in Estonia, where the distributed generation boom started earlier. 

Currently, more than 10 000 micro-generators with a total electricity generation capacity of 81 MW have already been to the distribution system.

In Latvia, there is also a high interest in the development of power plants and Sadales tīkls receives dozens of new applications for power plant connection every week. Even more rapid development of solar energy has been facilitated by amendments to the Electricity Market Law, which simplified the process of connecting power plants with a capacity of up to 500 kW.

Sandis Jansons is the Chairman of the Board at Sadales tīkls AS since April 2018. One of the company's key priorities is ensuring grid connections for distributed electricity generation (primarily) for self-consumption for businesses and individuals. Sandis has an Executive MBA degree from Stockholm School of Economics in Riga. Before joining Sadales tikls Sandis took leading positions in such companies as Fazer International, Pepsi-Cola General Bottlers, Pernod Ricard Latvia, Philip Morris, Rīgas Dzirnavnieks where he gained experience and in-depth comprehension of business strategic management.
