On March 9, over 70 members and guests joined the 30th Annual General Meeting (AGM) to review the past year’s activities and elect the Board of Directors. The AGM was joined by the new U.S. Ambassador to Latvia.
In his opening remarks Christopher Robinson, U.S. Ambassador to Latvia stressed the tremendous impact the war in Ukraine has had on the transatlantic community and the rest of the world. According to the Ambassador, “If you look around the world, there is no question: we are in the midst of a strategic competition to shape the future of the international order. As President Biden has emphasized, shared challenges demand shared solutions. We are committed to working with our allies and with partner organizations like AmCham to pursue a world that is free, open, prosperous, and secure.”
Addressing members, AmCham President and Chair of the Board John Tully said: “Enabling U.S.-Latvia connections and bringing everyone together to address major issues we are facing concerning healthcare, security and supporting common values is my vision for the future direction of AmCham.”
After the remarks of the Ambassador Robinson and AmCham President’s report, the Chamber’s past year highlights were presented by AmCham Vice Presidents. In the coming year, AmCham will be focusing on fostering trade and investment, raising awareness of economic opportunities between Latvia and the U.S., improving the business and investment climate in Latvia, and enhancing Latvia’s human capital.
At the AGM the following representatives were elected to the Board of Directors for a two-year term: Sarmis Spilbergs, Partner at Ellex Klavins, Ieva Racenaja, Director of Riga Graduate School of Law and individual members Roberts Melbardis and Pauls Miklasevics.
Liene Dubava, Dita Erna Sile, Kerli Vares, John Martin Tully and Liga Smildzina-Bertulsone will continue to serve on the Board.
Following the AGM, the board elected its officers: John Tully will continue to serve as Chair of the Board, while Liene Dubava, Roberts Melbardis, Pauls Miklasevics, Ieva Racenaja as Vice Presidents for the next year.
