Latvian Education Accelerator to bring positive change

Dec 01, 2023

On November 30, Latvian Education Accelerator, the first such initiative in Latvia, powered by The World Economic Forum as part of their global "Skills Revolution," was launched in cooperation with Swedbank, Accenture, and the Ministries of Education and Science, and Economics. This is the first World Economic Forum initiative of this scale to be implemented in the Baltic region. Revisit the event HERE

The program will last three years, and the program is designed to ensure regular cooperation between the main parties involved, including companies, universities and other educational institutions, non-governmental organizations and the state administration.

The work of the accelerator will be coordinated by four co-chairmen from the cooperation organizations of the accelerator program – Minister of Education and Science Anda ÄŒakša, Minister of Economy Viktors Valainis, Chairman of the Board of Swedbank Latvija Lauris Mencis, Head of Accenture in the Baltic States Maksims Jegorovs.

It is planned that more than 50 participants will participate in the program.

Up until now, the responsibility for the education strategy has been under the control of the state administration, where, contrary to the private sector, it has had an intermediate role and a relatively rare opportunity to participate in the direction and adoption of decisions. Despite various existing initiatives that promote skills acquisition and focus on strengthening education in specific sectors, the added value of the “Latvian Education Accelerator” will be the comprehensive approach that provides for active and regular cooperation with decision-makers at the government level, attracting representatives from relevant ministries, the private sector and industry experts. Thus, the main goal of this initiative is to ensure a systematic and long-term cooperation of the involved parties, jointly developing and advancing a proposal for initiatives and changes in the education sector.
