Violation of the Competition Law: facts and figures

Apr 11, 2019

PwC Competition Watch 2019, a survey conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal (PwC Legal) finds that Latvia needs closer collaboration and consultation with market players to minimize market distortions and build criteria for better market supervision.

Construction, Transportation and Retail & Wholesale have received the most fines, and time frames for reviewing fines are on the increase, while a transparent and deterrent fining policy requires closer cooperation between market players and the regulator, according to the survey.

The survey draws on publicly available data PwC Legal obtained from rulings made by the Latvian Competition Council in 2002-2018 on prohibited agreements and abuse of a dominant position regardless of whether national or EU competition rules were enforced.

All the data aggregation and analysis was carried out by PwC Legal's EU and Competition Law practice.
