Stars, stripes and sunshine! Nearly 1000 gather for a festive family picnic

On Saturday, June 29, nearly 1000 guests gathered at a picnic to celebrate the 248th Anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. American traditions, food, music, and various activities highlighted the event hosted by AmCham. The atmosphere of the event sparkled with positive energy as guests were buzzing all day long.

AmCham President John Tully, the Deputy Speaker of the Saeima Zanda Kalnina-Lukasevica, U.S. Ambassador Christopher Robinson, and Chief Investment Officer at BluOr Bank Pauls Miklasevics kicked off the event with greetings and opening remarks. The national anthems and classic hits were performed by the Latvian National Guard Orchestra and Latvian National Guard Pop/Rock band. More American classics were performed by popular DJ Ella who also presented her new single “Dudievins” by Imants Kalnins.

Festivities included a wide variety of food and beverages, a charity raffle, a trivia on the 4th of July history and traditions, contests by Bite Latvija, Procter & Gamble, Radisson Blu Daugava, Strategic Staffing Solutions, board games, a basketball hoop, and a tech playground by RTU Riga Business School. Children had the chance to play in the bouncy castle, have their face painted, and make giant bubbles. Guests were served traditional American picnic food: freshly made burgers, pulled pork barbeque, popcorn, and refreshing ice-cream.

In addition to festivities, EUR 4400 were raised in a charity raffle to benefit four AmCham principal charities - Children's Hospital Foundation, Latvian Foster Family Association, Ronald McDonald Charities Latvija and SOS Children’s Villages in Latvia - supporting health and wellbeing of Latvia’s children.
