On March 21, AmChams in Europe held the second webinar on the geopolitical and economic impact of Ukraine-Russia war this time focusing on the security perspectives and business outlooks in Ukraine, the Baltic and Nordic region with Andy Hunder, President of AmCham Ukraine and our Executive Director Liga Smildzina-Bertulsone alongside their colleagues from the Baltic and Nordic AmChams including Tadas Vizgirda, Chairman of AmCham Lithuania, Daria Sivovol, CEO of AmCham Estonia, Peter Dahlen, Managing Director of AmCham Sweden and Tomi Ere, Chairman of AmCham Finland.

The discussion included the latest updates from AmCham Ukraine and current security concerns within the Baltics and the Nordic region. AmChams discussed security, narratives, business outlooks, and actions done by the country leaders through the prism of NATO member and non-member states.

Representing AmCham Latvia, Liga emphasized that people and businesses in Latvia have shown outpouring support and solidarity for Ukraine and have opened their homes – and hearts – to the Ukrainian people arriving in Latvia. In the recent years followed by the annexation of Crimea, Latvia considered Russia and Belarus as high-risk jurisdictions and made significant reforms in the financial sector, therefore the economic and financial impact now is much smaller than it used to be. Geopolitically, Latvia is in the safest and most secure place it has ever been in its history – being part of the European single market, the Eurozone and NATO.
