A present that keeps giving

Nov 27, 2013

Community support is a very important aspect of AmCham. In particular, we focus on enhancing the future of Latvia by promoting healthy development of children and their rights to grow up in a family environment.

Believing that children are our future, we support our member Latvian Foster Family Society (LFF), promoting social inclusion of orphans and children under the care of foster parents and guardians. LFF is comprised of more than 165 foster families and guardians with 336 children residing in different regions of Latvia.

Currently, Latvian municipalities and the government pay anywhere from 350 to 500 LVL/month per child in an orphanage. By contrast, only 38 LVL/month is paid to a person for assuming the duties of a guardian, the legal caregiver of a child without parental care, and 32 LVL per child/month for care expenses.

Hundreds of children will enjoy a happier holiday season thanks to the annual "Christmas Angels" campaign on January 11, 2014 at the Latvian Society House. Latvian foster families are looking for donations of stationery, gift vouchers, food, sweets and household appliances.

Thank you for sharing your blessings with those in need this holiday season. Your support will make this Christmas brighter for orphans and their families.
