On Tuesday, December 10, the Cabinet of Ministers supported the removal of several bureaucratic obstacles to hiring international talent. We would like to thank and congratulate our Labor working group, and especially, Irina Kostina (Ellex Klavins) who contributed to the positive outcome of these long-awaited amendments!
According to the Interior Ministry, the amendments are meant to mitigate the negative impact of a local labor shortages rather than allow the import of cheap foreign labor to undercut local workers.
In particular, the amendments abolish the requirement to publish a vacancy in case prospective employee from a third country has been employed in Latvia for two years, or has been employed by the given employer and the employer wishes to employ him or her in another job.
We re-affirm our commitment to the values that AmCham stands for and that we share.
